DLSR2 (BECOMING DEPRECATED)

Description

Rincon Research Corporation’s (RRC) second-generation digital L-band software-defined radio (DLSR) family is becoming deprecated. It digitizes multiple L-band inputs for distribution via Ethernet. The DLSR2’s compact 19 inch rackmount (1U) chassis contains the RF components required for connecting directly to antennas or microwave block down converters (S, C, X, Ku, Ka). The integrated, high-performance cavity filter selects the L-band frequency range of 950 MHz to 1750 MHz and rejects out-of-band signals and down-conversion artifacts. The DLSR2 uses multi-rate signal processing techniques to implement up to eight digital down converters (digital sub-band tuners). Each down converter can be configured independently.

The output of each digital down converter (DDC) is distributed over 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) to individual clients or broadcast to multiple recipients. The DLSR2 supports standard output packet formats such as SDDS (with VLAN and multicast support) and VITA-49.

The DLSR2’s unique wideband snapshot feature provides continuous, high-resolution surveys of the entire digitized input signal (800 MHz wide) to support downlink evaluation and signal discovery/identification. This feature reduces the overall system cost by eliminating the need for external test equipment or for sweeping a narrow-band receiver.

High-precision time tagging is a signature feature of all of RRC’s data acquisition systems. The DLSR2 continues this tradition by producing time-tagged data with sub-1 ns accuracies. Through careful compensation of all algorithmic delays, RRC is able to maintain this level of precision for all digitally down-converted output bandwidths.

Built upon high-performance FPGA technology, the DLSR2 supports seamless in-field firmware upgrades to meet the demands of evolving requirements. RRC’s scalable solution makes it easy to deploy and maintain hundreds of units.
